Winterfest and Spring Festival Competitions

WINTERFEST 2022
(Updated in Sept. 2022)

Here are the guidelines for Winterfest:
 
1. The theme for PIANO categories is ROMANTIC/IMPRESSIONISM.  Students are allowed to play one piece or one movement (sonata) of their choice OR multiple shorter pieces from a suite or collection.  For other instruments, students are allowed to play works from any music period, with the exception of works by J.S. Bach. 
 
2. All music must be performed from memory. 
 
3. Students will be divided into 7 different categories, according to their AGE. 
 
Category I: 5-7 years old
Category II: 8-9 years old
Category III: 10-11 years old
Category IV: 12-13 years old
Category V: 14-15 years old
Category VI: 16-18 years old
Category VII: Adults
* Please note that the student’s age should be AS OF Nov. 12, 2022
 
4. Time limit: 7 minutes
 
5. Application deadline: Oct. 12, 2022 at 11:59pm.
  
6. Application Fees:  $ 50 per participant
 
7. Applicant must be studying with a teacher who is currently a member of the Diamond Bar Branch, and the student must have studied with that teacher continuously for a minimum of 6 months, up until the date of the application deadline.  The teacher must be the one instructing the student at least 70% of the lesson time.
 
8. Students will get disqualified automatically should he or she violate any part of the festival rules. 
 
9. Maximum 8 students per teacher. 
 
 
* Judges’ decisions are final.
 
* Please contact your child’s teacher to obtain an ONLINE APPLICATION FORM.  All parts of the application form must be filled out in their entirety.  Application is considered INCOMPLETE and will NOT be processed unless both the application and payment is received by Oct. 12, 2022.  NO CHANGES will be allowed and NO REFUND will be issued once the application is submitted.

SPRING FESTIVAL 2022

Spring Festival 2022 will be held in person, closed audition, on Saturday, May 7th at the Diamond Bar E-Free Church.  The student can choose to play any repertoire of one piece or multiple pieces if they are in the same collection (for example, different pieces but within the same opus number), or SINGLE MOVEMENT (Sonata) from any period except the arrangements of ragtime, pop music or classical pieces for the keyboard. A student who performs an arrangement or more than one movement of the Sonata will be disqualified from the competition. All pieces must be published and available for purchase.

Guidelines for the Festivals include:
