VOCE
Diamond Bar Branch offers the VOCE Program, a program of the MTAC State Association, which promotes and showcases student chamber groups throughout the state of California. For more information about VOCE, go to www.new.mtac.org.
1. All repertoire must include at least one piece from the standard literature for that category. No
transcriptions, arrangements, or abridged versions will be accepted. An exception will be made for
those instruments whose repertoire does not embrace the normal requirements, in which case
respectable transcriptions may be allowed. Please check with the VOCE Chair regarding eligibility.
2. CATEGORIES AND AGE LIMITS (as of February 1st of the year of competition)
*Proof of age by birth certificate, passport or driver's license must be sent with the branch application.
Copies must also be sent to the State Chair along with the application for the State Finals.
Solo Vocalists
Intermediate: age 17 and under
Senior: age 18 through 23
Solo Strings
Junior: age 12 and under
Intermediate: age 17 and under
Senior: age 18 through 23"
Solo Winds
Intermediate: age 15 and under
Senior: age 16 through 20
Instrumental Chamber Music Ensembles (two to five students, no professionals)
Intermediate: average age 15 and under
Senior: average age 16 through 20
Vocal Chamber Music Ensembles (three to five students, no professionals)
Senior: average age 23 and under
3. Application fees:
Branch Fees — $50.00 for Solo; $40.00 per Performer for Ensemble
State Finals Fees — $55.00 for Solo; $40.00 per Performer for Ensemble
4. The application deadline is 30 days prior to the day of the event. Teachers must send one (1) check to
VOCE Chair (Ying Li) for the total amount of the studentsʼ fees (payable to the MTAC Diamond Bar
Branch). Applications must be printed out on yellow paper as per MTAC rules and regulations.
5. Branch judges are encouraged to award Branch First Place winners to go on to the State Finals.
Two-way ties are allowed at the Branch Level. Alternates for the State Finals may be chosen if the
quality is close to the First Place Winner. An Alternate will go to the State Finals only if the First Place
winner(s) does not go.
6. Applicant must be studying with a teacher who is currently a member of the Diamond Bar Branch, and
the student must have studied with that teacher continuously for a minimum of 6 months.
